Tips and Tricks for a More Regenerative Sleep

Tips and Tricks for a More Regenerative Sleep How did you sleep last night? We don’t always even need to hear an answer to this question before we know it. Sometimes a glance into a person’s face tells it all â€" they look rugged and groggy.Yet, after a good night’s sleep we can look very different as well â€" our faces lit up and we almost look younger. This isn’t a trick either, as sleep has powerful regenerative qualities and I’m about to let you in on the secrets of getting a more regenerative sleep. WHY YOU NEED A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP?Before I delve into the secrets of a good regenerative sleep, the focus should be on the most essential questions of all: Why does any of this matter? Knowing how much benefits there are to sleep can help you make long lasting and effective chances. You truly start understanding why the following tricks are worth trying out and what you gain for sticking with them even if they seem silly at first.Mental benefitsPerhaps the most crucial changes you’ll start seeing as you start sleeping better are in terms of your mental wellbeing. Regenerative sleep will help you feel better and boost your mind’s capacity to operate. A study in 2002 looked at the impact sleep has on training in terms of motor skills. The study found that a good night’s sleep improved motor skills by 20%, while being awake had no significant increase to performance. Furthermore, the study highlighted the importance of the regenerative stages of sleep, which we’ll outline in t he next section. According to the data, there was a significant correlation between improvement in motor skills and the amount of sleep the person got during the second stage. In effect, by guaranteeing you sleep soundly, you can improve how your body is able to learn and adjust to new circumstances. In addition to boost in learning, a good sleep is beneficial in your ability to solve problems. In a separate study, published in Nature in 2004, scientists found sleep to be crucial for restructuring new memory representations. This in turn was found to improve the person’s ability to solve complex problems. According to the study, you can boost your chances of gaining new insight and ideas to problems simply by sleeping eight hours. So, next time you encounter a problem, you should just explore it for a while and then have a good, long sleep. Once you wake up, you might just have a solution for your problems. There’s plenty of truth in the saying, “Let’s sleep on it”.How does all of the above relate to mental wellbeing? Well, by being able to solve problems and learn new skills, you are essentially removing certain stresses away from your vicinity. You improve your ability to encounter tough challenges and to get over them without them turning into a huge problem in your mind.Physical benefitsBut it’s not just that sleep relaxes you and helps you gain perspective and knowledge, your body will benefit from a good night sleep as well. Stress has been shown to cause problems in skin health and its youthfulness. By reducing stress, through regenerative sleep, you can also improve your skin’s health and not just feel more radiant, but also look the part. Testosterone production also increases when you are sleeping well. In other studies, low testosterone in men has been linked to sleep apnoea and its harmful effects and by improving your sleep, you can prevent these problems occurring.Furthermore, sleeping well could even help you lose weight and to main tain a slimmer body. This is because lack of sleep has been linked with unbalanced insulin secretion, which is one cause of obesity. You can probably relate to this point easily, as we’ve all experienced those tired moments when McDonald’s always seems a better idea to a salad bowl. Finally, but by no means least important, the physical benefit of proper sleep could reduce your risk of cancer. Sleep is strongly shown to boost healthy cell division, which is crucial for fighting and preventing cancerous cells. Furthermore, the same study noted how irregular and insufficient sleep patters could cause abnormal metabolism, which can increase problems with your heart health as well. One study of professional basketball players actually looked at the overarching benefits of quality sleep. The researchers found a clear link between better athletic performance and enhanced sleep. The players reported they had more energy and felt less fatigued during and after games. In fact, they didn†™t just say the performance was better, but the mood improved as well. Sleep and its importance have become a big talking point in the past few years. If you need more convincing of its benefits, listen to this interview with Arianna Huffington. THE DIFFERENT STAGES OF SLEEPI mentioned the importance of stage three and four in the previous section. That’s correct, sleep isn’t just sleep from the moment you fall asleep to the time you wake up. In between, you go through four different stages, all of which are important, yet some of which have a crucial role in regenerative sleep. During the night, your body will cycle through the following stages:The stage of sleepWhat happens during this stage?N1You feel almost half asleep during this stage and it’s the moment where you are still somewhat aware of your surroundings, but when you start slowly losing this awareness. Often during N1, your body can make involuntary movements and you might feel your legs or arms jerking and twitchi ng.N2The N2 is the slightly deeper stage of N1 and it’s when you lose your awareness of the surroundings. You aren’t still fully immersed in sleep, but more or less unaware of what is happening around you. This stage actually takes up most of your nightly sleep, as it’s roughly 50% of total sleep time.N3In the third stage of sleep you are in a state of deep. Your body’s core temperature sets at this point and you are producing melatonin at a higher rate. During this stage, your muscles are fully relaxed and you are in a regenerative sleep. The mind and the body are regenerating and recovering from the day’s events. The stage doesn’t last too long and it cycles you to the most productive part of the different sleep cycles: REM.REMThe final stage, although it doesn’t mean it’s the last stage you sleep in, as these four keep cycling, is the REM or Rapid Eye Movement stage. When you are dreaming, you are in the REM stage. Interestingly, REM stage only takes around a quar ter of our nightly sleep, but it is, together with N3, the most important part of getting a good night’s sleep and gaining the above benefits. So, during the night your body will cycle between the two stages. The most important thing is to guarantee you sleep uninterrupted, so that you can reach the REM stage. You should enter this regenerative state at least once a night, although twice would be optimal. If you are interested in the stages and especially the REM state, you should check out the video below. THE BUILDING BLOCKS OF REGENERATIVE SLEEPHow can you guarantee you maximize the benefits and enjoy regenerative sleep each night? There are a few essential building blocks to regenerative sleep and I’ll look at these along with some tips on how to achieve them before providing you a few extra tricks to keep up your sleeve when sleeping become an issue.Solid sleeping environmentUnsurprisingly perhaps, the most crucial factor for good sleep is the environment in which you sleep in. If you think about the best sleep you’ve ever had, you probably didn’t sleep in a fully crowded departures lounge or on the office floor? To guarantee a solid sleeping environment, you need to focus on a few key elements. These include:Proper mattressYour mattress has a huge impact on how well you sleep. Pick the wrong type of mattress and you’ll be tossing and turning all night long. Remember, the right kind doesn’t mean the softest is always the best. We tend to have preferences in the softness of mattress, with some of us loving a sturdier mattress and others avoiding those as much as possible. When it comes to mattress type, the key is to test what suits you the best and to change the mattress regularly (Sleep Train recommends changing it every 7 years). Below is an image to help you when shopping for mattresses. Source and Copyrights: SoundBord.coThe right room temperature and noise controlAfter mattress, your focus should shift to the room temperature and its noisiness. First, if you go and check your bedroom’s room temperature, I’m almost certain it’s set too high. This is not because you have made a huge mistake, but because most of us make this critical error of warming our bedroom too much. Our intuition tends to tell us that warmer is better and cosier. While you shouldn’t be moving to an igloo, you will sleep well simply by turning down the room temperature a notch. The Wall Street Journal reported on the latest research on the subject and concluded that science shows the ideal temperature to be 65 Fahrenheit or around 18 Celsius. Keeping the room relatively chilly and then nestling in under thick, comforting blankets will feel amazingly soothing â€" just try it.In terms of sound, you would want to limit the noise levels. Since you can’t stop the outside world when you sleep, you should try white noise. It can block out background noise and it helps your body to relax. You can find white noise sleeping apps online â€" Sleep Genius is a useful app to consider if the noises are your sleeping kryptonite.Fresh airFinally, your sleeping environment should focus on the quality of air inside the room. You should plant a few plants to help in the production of fresh air. Jasmine can help reduce anxiety, according to a study and can therefore be helpful in nurturing your sleep.Aloe Vera emits oxygen at nighttime, guaranteeing plenty of fresh air in the room while you are sleeping. Above all, remember to regularly clean the bedroom and to open the air to allow fresh air to flow across the room.Effective sleeping habitsThe above tips help you optimize your sleeping environment, but you also need proper sleeping habits for regenerative sleep. The effective habits are surprisingly easy to follow and you won’t need to start changing your whole life around. You need to focus on two key habits: a sleeping schedule and your eating and drinking habits. In terms of schedule, you should create a solid sleeping routine. If you go to bed at 11pm on one day, 8pm the next and 3am on certain days, you keep your body guessing and it therefore doesn’t know when to relax. You must keep to your body’s circadian rhythm, which is the natural sleep-wake cycle. Stick to a regular sleeping time as much as you can. Choose a time when you are naturally tired (try to make it before 10pm) and ditch the alarm clock.OK, that might cause alarm bells to ring in your head, but the truth of the matter is: if you are sleeping enough, you don’t need an alarm. If you are not willing to sleep fully without a clock, get one that adjusts to your sleep stages and wakes you up at a time when you are already alert. To ensure you aren’t like a walking zombie each morning, increase your exposure to sunlight as soon as you get up.Go stand in the balcony, or front yard for a fe w second to bask in the sun â€" it doesn’t even need to be fully sunny; you just need plenty of natural light. If it is actually dark outside when you wake up, you can purchase a natural light lamp. These are great for improving your mood and helping you sleep better. Light exposure is not only crucial in the morning.Your body starts preparing for sleep as soon as the sun goes down, because the lack of this natural light sends a signal to your body to start producing more melatonin. As this happens, you become drowsier. This is exactly why you want to try follow the natural sleeping pattern. But it also means that if you are in a brightly lit environment late at night or are exposed to superficial light, you might find it hard to fall asleep. You should also adjust your sleep and eating routines before bedtime. Proper hydration is essential for ensuring a good night’s sleep. So, you should try to increase your water intake throughout the day, although you want to avoid drinking r ight before bedtime. Being adequately hydrated will also help with the other part of the equation: eating habits. If you are adequately dehydrated and you drink enough water, you won’t feel that false sense of hunger as often and therefore reach out to a box of biscuits. If you overeat three to four hours before sleep, your regenerative hormones won’t generate as efficiently. Your pancreas and liver are still trying to digest the meal, instead of releasing these regenerative hormones and helping your body to recover and rejuvenate. You definitely don’t want to leave the biggest meal of your day to just a few hours before you try to sleep. If you want to eat something before sleep (an hour or so), you should add the following on the menu:Fresh fruit, like banana and applesVegetables, such as broccoli or green beansA broth soupYou should also start monitoring the effect caffeine has on your body. If you continue having trouble sleeping, you should check whether drinking caffeinat ed drinks (coffee, soda, or tea) has an impact and start leaving a bigger gap between sleeping and drinking them. Other supplements and chemicals you want to avoid enjoying close to sleep include: alcohol, nicotine and food preservatives.Good control of stress levelsFinally, regenerative sleep requires a good control of your stress levels. The inconvenient truth is that if you are always stressed, you won’t be able to sleep soundly. You need to find a way to reduce your stress overall and especially the feeling of anxiety and stress as the night draws closer. So, what is the best way to control stress? There are two simple solutions to this age-old problem: proper exercise and meditation for stress management.Exercise releases hormones in your body and these hormones can help fight stress in a few different ways. First, you strengthen your body and its immune system. This helps you become stronger and your immune system to withstand more stress. The healthier you are, the less neg ative effect being busy can have on your body.Furthermore, the hormones promote the healthy functioning of your body, boosting your melatonin production and helping you sleep better at night. So, if you are stressed and your sleep is not solid, you should start exercising more. Just remember, you don’t want to exercise right before bedtime. Exercise increased adrenaline production; meaning you might be lying in bed super excited about your newfound energy boost after the jog! Try adding some exercise to your morning or afternoon routines. You can also control stress through meditation. You want to use meditation and relaxing techniques to calm your mind and prepare your body for rest. The Internet has plenty of great guides to meditating and relaxing. For example, I found the below video helpful when I started meditating. There are a few easy ways to feel calmer. These rituals are not necessarily as effective as meditating, but the rituals can help take your mind off from the daily stresses and help you slow down to a different rhythm after a long day. So, before bedtime, you could:Read a happy or positive book in soft light.Listen to relaxing music while lying down in darkly lit room.Stretch your body gently.Dim the lights around the house and prepare your To Do-list for the next day. TRICKS TO SLEEPING BETTERThe above provide you the basic building blocks required for a good night sleep. They are the essential tips to follow if you want to enjoy from regenerative sleep. But if you’d like to enhance the impact of sleep and ensure you rest well each night, you should consider the below tricks as well.Take time to worryAs I said above, stress can be a huge block for sleeping well. When you have a lot on your plate, it can be hard to just simply relaxing and putting your worries aside. Therefore, an unconventional, but highly effective trick is to take time to worry. Yes, you read that right. You should pick a moment and just spend all your energy thinking ab out the things that bother you.Does it sound a bit masochistic? It shouldn’t scare you because the technique can help you feel more relaxed and to help you sleep more peacefully. And if you remember, one of the mental benefits of sleep was enhanced problem solving, so you might just fix your problems asleep with the technique. What do you need to do? Get a pen and paper and choose a specific 15-minute period for worrying. This can be anytime of the day, just not the last thing you do before sleeping. Set an alarm clock for 15-minutes and start worrying. Write each one of them down on paper, either in words or images. Be specific and let it all out, no matter how miniscule. After time is up, take a few deep breaths and stop thinking about the worries. This can help you sleep easier and make you realize some of those worries might not be worth worrying about.Use essential oils and supplementsIf you are having real trouble sleeping, you might find help in essential oils and supplement s. There are natural products that can aid in the production of melatonin and which make it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep. The actual science behind many essential oils and supplements is not conclusive, but it doesn’t hurt to try. You might find these products helpful and that is all that matters, not whether they are backed by proper studies. In terms of essential oils, the recommended mixtures include:JasmineLavenderNeroliChamomileMarjoramUse the essential oils either on your body or in the room. You can burn a scented candle before sleeping or get a diffuser to use in the room. You can dilute some of the mixture with water and gently rub it in on your feet and palms. The rubbing sensation can calm you down and the essential oils can help relax your body. You could also opt for supplements. WebMD recommends using valerian, which is an herbal supplement. The herb is gathered from the root of a perennial flower. The image below shows how to start using the product and the d ifferent ways the supplement can be taken. Source and Copyrights: Dr Axe websiteConsider powernappingThis next trick might seem a little counterintuitive. If you browse sleeping tips online, you are sure to find tons of them telling you to stop napping. But I’ll try to convince you of the opposite: powernapping regularly to sleep better at night. A light nap during the day can help you sleep better at night because it ensures you aren’t overtired when night comes. The key to a good napping that doesn’t disrupt your normal sleeping cycle is to:Nap during the early afternoon. You ideally want to take your nap around an hour after you’ve had lunch, as it’s the right time for your body to feel naturally a little drowsy. The early afternoon is also enough removed from the actual bedtime to ensure you don’t have a problem falling asleep at night.Keep your naps short. You should be power napping, which means sleeping just enough to feel refreshed, but not long enough to feel groggy when you wake up and have trouble falli ng asleep later. You just need 10 to 20 minutes of napping and you are good to go. Anything longer and you probably start finding napping to have a negative impact on your sleep.Stick to a schedule. Just as you should do with the regular sleeping, napping should be about keeping to a schedule. The regular schedule makes you fall asleep faster, helping you to gain the benefits of power napping. Your body will start regulating itself and go into the ‘sleep’-mode as your naptime approaches.Exercise intenselyAnother point I mentioned as a building block to regenerative sleep was exercise and its ability to control stress. With the help of regular exercise routine, you can improve the amount your body spends in the restorative sleep stage. But you can take the benefits to a next level by increasing the vigor in which you exercise. The more vigorously you exercise, the better your sleep will become. When I talk about intensive and vigorous exercise, I’m referring to two key pointers. First, your exercise should be vigorous in terms of getting your heart rate beating faster. This generally means short bursts of intensive exercise instead of calmer, longer forms such as yoga or weight lifting. Instead, you want to take a 10-minute brisk walk, add a short sprint to your regular run or go swim at full speed. The second point is about adjusting the intensity to your needs. A brisk 10-minute walk might not be able to get you worked up, even if it makes my heart race. The key is to find an exercise burst that is vigorous according to your current skill level. So, it might just be an intensive 15-minute run or perhaps swimming two full lengths of exercise works the best for you.Remember that as you start exercising regularly, your body might improve in fitness and strengths â€" if this happens, it’s time to turn up the volume and pick something more vigorous.Eliminate sources of EMFFinally, you should consider eliminating all sources of EMF from the bedroom and avoid using the products that emit these close to your bedroom. EMF, what? EMF stands for electro-magnetic field, which are emitted by most technology products from your smartphone to your electronic toothbrush. Although the studies on the effect of EMF and sleep are inconclusive and further investigation is needed, you might be a Highly Sensitive Person and find these fields disturbing. Therefore, you would want to remove all extra EMFs from your bedroom, especially as the night settles.Even if you don’t find a direct impact of EMFs on your sleep, having technology in the bedroom can be disruptive â€" it can keep you hooked on watching things or browsing the web when you should be sleeping. Therefore, your smartphone and laptop should not have a room in the bedroom and you definitely want to start enforcing a rule that prevents you from using them an hour before your bedtime.FINAL THOUGHTSRegenerative sleep is crucial for your mental and physical wellbeing. It helps you stay active, he althy and full of energy, boosting your mood and keeping you happy. Without proper regenerative sleep at nights, you put yourself under higher risk of illness and injury and speed up your body’s aging process.I’ve outlined the core building blocks you need to focus on in order to sleep well at night. It’s about creating the appropriate space for sleeping, reducing distractions and finding inner peace before you place your head on the pillow. But regenerative sleep goes beyond just having the right environment and feeling happy; the things you drink and eat, and even think, can have an impact on how well your body regenerates cells and rejuvenates at night. So, test the above tricks and find the ones that work for you, as we aren’t all the same. And don’t give up! Some of the habits and tips above will need a continuous application for weeks and even months before you’ll start seeing the benefits of a more regenerative sleep.

Early History Of America By Robert Lloyd Garrison And The...

Early History of America It draws the global attention to the extend and the achievements of America concerning the major issues of development. However, it must be noted that the history of achievement takes its form of complexity that features the details and characters involved in the immediate past, as well as the ones who determined the current status of America. In the process, major issues like slavery, revolution and settlement served as major drawbacks that hampered development within the American boundaries. In the â€Å"Portrait of America†, the collective work done by Oates and Errico (2012) features an important section that avails more information headed â€Å"I Will Be Heard: William Lloyd Garrison And The Struggle Against Slavery† depicting the work of a humbled author Ian Berlin, who focused much on Nat Turner, who was by then considered a revolt following the prevailing conditions of slavery. Further details on antislavery reveal the true character of an abolitionist, Garrison. In addition, the work narrows down to the actions taken by Thomas Jefferson related to antislavery. Garrison’s time entailed slavery that stretched to the American south accompanied with denial of rights from the African Americans. Segregation cultivated racism in a quite far reaching extent of observing every nature and behavior of the African Americans. Such actions among others raised a great concern of emancipating the blacks beginning with releasing the children of the slaves.Show MoreRelatedThe American Civil War6915 Words   |  28 PagesWar After the War of Independence the United States of America was governed by the Articles of Confederation. Essay about Three Approaches to Coping with School Violence

We humans have always sought to increaseour personal energy in the only manner wehave known: by seeking to psychologically steal it from others—an unconscious competition that underlies all human conflict in the world. (James Redfield, 1993, The Celestine Prophecy, New York: Warner Books,65–66) Some school critics and statisticians have observed that drug-dealing, vandalism, robbery, and murder have replaced gum-chewing, â€Å"talking out of turn,† tardiness, and rudeness as the most chronic problems afflicting today’s schools. And the depressing numbers drone on. Yet, a MetLife teacher’s survey in 1993 shows that 77% of teachers and 50% of kids felt safe in and around their own schools (9). And according to a New York Times article (1994), although violent incidents in New York City’s 1,100 public schools (K–12) rose 26% in 1993–94, no homicides occurred in them—the first year since 1990. Still, in the same article, New York City Schools’ Chancellor Ramon C. Pipeline Systems free essay sample

Drawbacks of the Pipeline for Alberta Oil mining is the pillar industry in Alberta and building pipeline system is the most efficient way to transport oil into other areas. However, whether pipeline systems are appropriate technology has been debated for many years. Appropriate technology means the ‘technology that is designed with consideration to the environmental, ethical, cultural, social, political, and economical aspects of the community it is intended for. ’ [1] Many people believe that the Conduit System pipeline is not appropriate technology. The reason is that though it is profitable , it decreases the motivation of developing new environmental-friendly power systems. Also some of the First Nations think it is so ridiculous to sell the precious resources which is given by our ancestors and nature. Moreover it is not a environmentally beneficial system. This paper will support the point of view that the conduit system is actually an inappropriate technology by illustrating examples in such three perspectives. We will write a custom essay sample on Pipeline Systems or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In the first place, the project is certainly â€Å"a tremendous display of the short sighted thinking†[2] because it only thinks about the short-time economic gain without considering the environmental problems. Also the construction of Pipeline system decreases the motivation of developing new environmental-friendly power systems. Once the conduit system pipeline is built up,more and more companies would follow and build more of the pipelines, since it is a profitable and a most easy way to transporting oil. However, once the pipelines are set up, the companies has to run it rapidly, otherwise the construction cost would never be recovered. Under this situation, it limits the sustainable economy development . Thus the construction of pipeline system are strongly discommended. Furthermore, the conduit system pipeline leads to disagreements and conflicts with the Canadian society, especially between the First Nation and the government. Every individual and social group has their own belief and way of life. We do not support this pipeline project. We believed that the project has the potential to harm our environment ,as well as our way of life. We hope that our voice is heard and taken into consideration. †[3] said by the First Nations leaders. It contradicts the economy growth valued by the Conduit company, as well as the government, therefore confits appears. Therefore, it is obvious that the Conduit company pipeline would trigger dispute between First Nations and other social grou ps. Lastly, it is not environmentally beneficial for the human race to build the pipeline system in the long term. Oil spilling is a serious challenge for oil transporting industry, especially for long distance pipeline system. The Enbridge oil spill [4] is a strong example, over 190000 liters oil seeped out. The impact of oil spill is catastrophic. Carbon dioxide will be released to atmosphere increasingly, the green-house-effect will be more serious. At the same time the eco-system will be ruined, the fields can not be grown in 10 years or more. It is a disaster for both human and nature. â€Å"An oil spill from this pipeline will have major media coverage, which would effectively destroy Canada’s reputation. †[5] said the politician. Furthermore the oil of Alberta is non-renewable energy resource, it can not be produced in thousands years. Though the pipeline system is the most efficient way to transport the resources, what we can leave to our next generations if the oil is exhausted. Overall, it is obvious that the conduit system is actually not an appropriate technology for Alberta. According to the examples and analyses above, the pipeline system is a immature technology which creates social conflict, damages the planet and leaves even more environmental issues to the younger generations. [6] Consequently, the applying of the conduit system still needs more consideration. Alessandro Volta - Inventor of the Voltaic Pile

Alessandro Volta - Inventor of the Voltaic Pile In 1800, Alessandro Volta of Italy built the voltaic pile and discovered the first practical method of generating electricity. Count Volta also made discoveries in electrostatics, meteorology and pneumatics. His most famous invention, however, is the first battery. Alessandro Volta - Background Alessandro Volta was born in Como, Italy in 1745. In 1774, he was appointed as professor of physics at the Royal School in Como. While at the Royal School, Alessandro Volta designed his first invention the electrophorus in 1774, a device that produced static electricity. For years at Como, he studied and experimented with atmospheric electricity by igniting static sparks. In 1779, Alessandro Volta was appointed professor of physics at the University of Pavia and it was while there that he invented his most famous invention, the voltaic pile. Alessandro Volta - Voltaic Pile Constructed of alternating discs of zinc and copper, with pieces of cardboard soaked in brine between the metals, the voltaic pile produced electrical current. The metallic conducting arc was used to carry the electricity over a greater distance. Alessandro Voltas voltaic pile was the first battery that produced a reliable, steady current of electricity. Alessandro Volta - Luigi Galvani One contemporary of Alessandro Volta was Luigi Galvani, in fact, it was Voltas disagreement with Galvanis theory of galvanic responses (animal tissue contained a form of electricity) that led Volta to build the voltaic pile to prove that electricity did not come from the animal tissue but was generated by the contact of different metals, brass and iron, in a moist environment. Ironically, both scientists were right. Named In Honor of Alessandro Volta Volt - The unit of electromotive force, or difference of potential, which will cause a current of one ampere to flow through a resistance of one ohm. Named for Italian physicist Alessandro Volta.Photovoltaic - Photovoltaic are systems that convert light energy into electricity. The term photo is a stem from the Greek phos, which means light. Volt is named for Alessandro Volta, a pioneer in the study of electricity.

Explain how inbound logistics, conversion operations and outbound Essay

Explain how inbound logistics, conversion operations and outbound logistics converge to provide intergrated logistics - Essay Example rations involves several essential elements of a business such as production management, information flows, transportation of goods, warehousing, inventory control etc. Handling such activities with precision has become inevitable for the companies to gain competitive advantage over their competitors and strengthen its market positioning. It covers several operational aspects of a business, such as order processing, distribution of goods, as well as packaging which are essential for the timely receipt of raw materials as well as delivery of the finished products to the end users. Logistics can be defined as â€Å"The process of planning, implementing, and controlling procedures for the efficient and effective storage of goods, services, and related information from the point of origin to the point of consumption for the purpose of conforming to customer requirements. This definition includes inbound, outbound, internal, and external movements1.† While the business dictionary defines logistics as â€Å"planning, execution, and control of the procurement, movement, and stationing of personnel, material, and other resources to achieve the objectives of a campaign, plan, project, or strategy. It may also be defined as the management of inventory in motion and at rest.2† Michael Porter’s Value Chain Model3, is an essential tool that helps in analyzing the various activities through which, the firms across the industry, seek to create competitive advantage. This model involves a series of support activities which are shown in the following diagram: The basic idea behind this model is to depict the various activities that create value to the organization which should be far greater than the cost involved in providing the product or service, hence creating a substantial profit margin in the process. These activities are explained through the case study of the â€Å"Bombay Dabbawalas† (Lunch box carriers from a city in India), a six sigma operation, recognized as a

Budget Monitoring and Format ( Individual Project ) Research Paper

Budget Monitoring and Format ( Individual Project ) - Research Paper Example The over-expense incurred by the investment specialists would tighten the amount of idle funds left for the company to meet the short term liabilities (Handlechner, 2008). Operational Risk The Money Cares Investment Corporation would face operational risks as the funds required for its daily operations would be curtailed due to the wastage of finances by means of credit cards for obtaining marketing supplies, transportation, and hospitalities. Financial Risk The budget planned for Money Cares Investment Corporation includes the estimated expenditures and the anticipated sources of the revenue in order to generate the future cash flow and meet the future liabilities. As a result of the over-expenses incurred by the investment specialists by the use of credit cards, it would lead to the deficit in the cash flows of future, thereby, posing financial risks in terms of the shortage of liquidity. Actions for the Company to Succeed In order to create a situation for the company to succeed, there should be a sufficient control established along with the continuous monitoring for the budgetary expenses planned for the company. The budgetary allocations are series of actions involving planning, implementation, and monitoring. In order to succeed, the company should construct a system of approval for the use of credit cards by the investment specialist. The CEO and Finance department should ask the clericals of the company to undertake the official work of recording the expenses on a daily basis. The expenses to be incurred by the usage of credit cards need to have a prior approval form a responsible authority. The investment specialists are also to be held accountable for the income generated and the expenses proposed by them. Thus, a proper budgetary control and monitoring system would help the company to succeed (Husson, 2002). A tally of the records will help the company to understand what amount of limit is left to be against the budget plan. This implementation of t he budgetary control will help to prevent over-expenses of the company. Company’s Most Vulnerable Areas The most vulnerable areas of the company are the financial procedures and instruments used for the funding of the daily operations. This involves the role of the manager and the three investment specialists. The company has chosen to use credit cards in order to access funds required for transportation and hospitality of customers while having expenditures for food and drinks and marketing supplies of its solutions. The absence of a cost control mechanism supported by a lack of monitoring by the company has given a free hand to the investment specialists. The ownership of the investments by the specialists under such a process is under question. Thus, the control mechanism for monitoring the expenses of the company is the most vulnerable area of the business of Money Cares Investment Corporation. The Company’s Assets The company’s assets are the short term cas h positions held by the company which help them to service the short term liabilities. The liquidity level of the company helps them to service the expenses on credit cards and other short-term credits acquired by the company. The net current assets of the company help them to meet the cost of daily operations that include transportation costs, marketing of its solutions

The Birth of China :: The Birth of China Herrlee Glessner Essays

The Birth of China Herrlee Glessner Creel wrote The Birth of China. The book was published in 1937 at Frederick Lungar Publishing in New York City. Creel was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 15 1905. Both Creel’s mother and father were writers. Creel attended the University of Oklahoma, Creighton University, and finally the University of Chicago where he received his Ph.D. in 1929. In 1922 he worked as a newspaper reporter and later became a Sinologist discovering oracle bones that dated back to 3,000 years. Eventually, Creel became a Professor of Chinese History and Literature at the University of Chicago. Creel died in June of 1994, he was then living in Parlos Park, Illinois. His books have been published in England, France, Japan, Italy, and Spain. He wrote once that, â€Å"My principal concern is to understand the origins and the early history of humanity’s most continually enduring civilization, that of China.† The first section of this book talks about the true discovery of china. Creel notes that until the late 1800’s and early 1900’s with the discovery of China’s magnificent marble sculptures and oracle bones, we had to rely on tradition and legend for the knowledge of the Chinese people. He goes on to talk about the excavation of Chinese artifacts and finally the origin of the Chinese people. In the second section Creel goes on to the talk about the great city of Shang. The Shang were the first people known Chinese history. That period in time is now referred to as the Shang Dynasty. He discuses there livelihood, handicrafts, sculpture and bronze, society, war, writing, their gods, and talks about sacrifice. Finally, in the last section, Creel talks about the Chou Dynasty. A huge advance in civilized living gave him a chance to discuss China’s early politics, literature, marriage, family, business, religion, and law. This book got many great reviews. Balsara Used to Its Advantage

Explain the environmental factors which Balsara used to its advantage. BALSARA USED TO ITS ADVANTAGE IN INDIA. – with clove oil (which has been traditionally regarded in India as an effective deterrent to tooth decay and tooth ache) as a unique selling proposition IN MALAYSIA – There was good response to Miswak also in the Muslim dominated Malaysia. Its promotion highlighted the fact that miswak (Latin Name : Salvadora Persica) was a plant that had been used for centuries by as a tooth cleaning twig. It had reference in Koran. Quoting from Faizal-E-Miswak, it was pointed out that prophet Mohammed used â€Å"miswak before sleeping at night and after awakening. ’’ The religious appeal in the promotion was reinforced by the findings of scientists all over the world, including Arabic ones, of the antibacterial property of clove and its ability to prevent tooth decay and gums. IN USA – Market intelligence revealed that there was a growing preference in the advanced counties for nature based products. Balsara tied up with Auromere Imports Inc. (AAII), Los Angeles. An agency established by American followers of Aurobindo, an Indian philosopher saint. Eight months of intensive R & D enabled Balsara to develop a tooth paste containing 24 herbal ingredients that would satisfy the required parameter. Auromere was voted as the No. 1 toothpaste in North Eastern USA ————— The product line was extended by introducing several variants of Auromere. A saccharine free toothpaste was introduced. The Harmuful Effects of Marijuana - 787 Words

In 2006, A Drug Free Worlds The Harmful Effects of Marijuana† emerged in the media. ADFW reasons that marijuana is harmful in numerous ways, including cerebral damage and debilitation to the immune system. Throughout the article, they also try to persuade the reader that cannabis is a gateway drug that undoubtedly leads the users into much harder drugs. When reading this article, one must consider that research to support anything can be found if one searches hard enough, but without a doubt the fallacy of their conclusion is due to their research seeking facts to support an already-assumed conclusion. Consequently, I have found that many of their points simply do not justify their conclusion. One of ADFW’s strongest supporting claims is of the physical harms of marijuana. They claim that marijuana smoke contains 50% to 70% more cancer-causing substances than tobacco smoke†; however, they fail to mention that these studies are exaggerated and the real fact is that it contains 5 times as many cancer causing agents, but those are counteracted by the THC and CBD within the drug that cigarettes dont contain, a point brought to light by articles like â€Å"Marijuana Cures Cancer† by Arjun Walia. More present-day examinations of people who are frequent marijuana users show no signs of cerebral damage. Additonally, the American Medical Association has officially endorsed the legalization of marijuana. I find this to be quite a bit more persuasive than an obsolete and poorly

Tall, short, skinny, fat, white, black, Asian, upper class, lower class, kind, strong, loveable, rich and famous, we all have our share of traits that we would like for our mate to possess. Do we really know what we want? Are we bias because of what society portrays or do we focus on what our culture has shown us. It has become common today to dismiss what our feelings and emotions tell us as it relates to love and marriage and go off of what society portrays. When it comes to the topic of mate choice/marriage and who we want to spend our life with or even have sex with, most of us would readily agree that as Meredith Small states in What’s Love Got to Do with It, â€Å"we are attracted to some people over others, drawn like a magnet in one†¦show more content†¦As I believe in marriage and everything about it, the couple must have time for each other or they will end up only focusing on the kids and loose interest in each other. We see it often in the headlines o f famous people who get married, have kids and live a happy life, like the Obamas, but on the other hand we see others like the Why Marriage Matters article states with Jon and Kate. They were married, had eight kids, but ended up divorcing. It is very important that we choose our mates carefully and realize that marriage is for the children and their stability but also most importantly for the two people that love each other. Because I believe that people should choose their mates carefully, work at it, and not get a divorce, is why I like Flanagan’s ideas more than Small’s. I have always believed that opposites attract, On the other hand, Small beliefs are that we are drawn to people who are similar to us and should marry someone who is just like we are. On page 153 she states, â€Å"It makes evolutionary sense to bump into, marry, and make children with someone like yourself.† Although I truly feel that my husband and I are totally opposite, I do agree that we probably have more in common than I truly realize. Feminist theory analyzes the gender inequality that women have faced throughout the years due to a patriarchal society. Women were expected to fit the traditional female and conform to the gender norms that society has constructed. According to A Brief Introduction to Critical Theory, â€Å"Feminism embodies a way of reading that investigates the text’s investment in or reaction to the patriarchal power structures that have dominated Western culture† (227). Patriarchal power has oppressed women economically, socially, and politically. Women were associated more with domesticity than with politics and financial situations. They were not provided the same educational opportunities as men. These issues have been addressed by people, such as Mary†¦show more content†¦Due to their lack of educational opportunities during the Victorian era, women were more educated in domesticity, while men were taught in various subjects. Wollstonecraft describes the education that women receive to be â€Å"a disorderly kind of education† (161). If women were given equal educational opportunities as men, then it would allow them to become more empowered. Wollstonecraft states, â€Å"Strengthen the female mind by enlarging it, and there will be an end to blind obedience†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (163). Meaning that by providing women with a educational equivalent to men, then it would put an end to women having to be reliant on men and be able to independent. Therefore, women will not have to feel inferior to their male counterparts. She encourages women to become more empowered and challenge the gender constructs of society. On that note, in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth, Mr. Darcy, and Miss Caroline Bingley discusses what makes a woman â€Å"accomplished† during the early nineteenth century. For instance, â€Å"‘A woman must have a thorough knowledge of music, singing, drawing, dancing, and the modern languages to deserve the w ord†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢Ã¢â‚¬ (Austen 26). Identifying Major Depressive Disorder Free Essays

We, as human beings at some point would feel low, unstable and sometimes would not know how to exactly describe what we feel bout certain things. Most often it is unknown to us that we are maybe suffering from mood disorders, we become unaware of ourselves. Mood disorders are portrayed by having wide swing of emotions; it ranges from deep depression to extreme excitement, exhilaration or euphoria and agitation. We will write a custom essay sample on Identifying Major Depressive Disorder or any similar topic only for you Order Now There are actually two forms of mood disorder; the first one is depression and the other is bipolar respectively. Mania is characterized by intense and or unrealistic feelings of excitement and euphoria, and depression involves feelings of extraordinary sadness and dejection. In some cases wherein mania and depression comes together it is known to be bipolar, in which a person with this disorder would have to feel extreme excitement and deep sadness simultaneously. When depression exists for the longest time it is called dysthymia. It is known to be similar with major depression but it is a long term disorder, it is mild and not an acute (Dinsmoor., December, 2002). Symptoms of depression The symptoms of depression can be manifested easily in a person. These symptoms are actually various and it can be easily recognized. A person with a depression would have the symptoms of having difficulty in sleeping; they do not get their sleep easily because their minds are restless and due to this they would feel stressed or fatigued. It can also be the other way around; people with depression can also be recognized if they sleep excessively. They would also loose their appetite and would usually loose weight or they would do excessive eating and gain weight. It can also manifest in their activities; people with depression would loose their attraction in their activities that they do find pleasurable. Major depression disorder can also come with the loosing the appetite for sex or having sexual problems; it can also be accompanied by headaches. There is also the feeling of guilt, hopelessness, helplessness, worthlessness and one of the hardest manifestations is that they find concentrating on certain things too difficult (Association, 2000). Is Katherine suffering from major depressive disorder? Katherine has been experiencing the symptoms engaged in the mood disorder which is called major depressive disorder, in which she often wishes she were dead, she feels sad all day long and cries several times a day, she experiences disturbed sleep and, as a result, she feels fatigued all day long, she has absolutely no interest in sex or even spending time with friends, she finds it extremely difficult to concentrate at work and just does not want to be around people. If these feelings and wide variety of undeniable changes are not induced by alcohol or any drink that would make her feel down, if they are caused by a difficulty in her functions in her work or at home and if they were not caused by great sorrow I can make a systematic statement that Katherine is really suffering from major depressive disorder. And since Katherine has more than five of the symptoms attached with major depressive disorder I can say that she is really suffering from it. Katherine needs to be treated while she is still in the early stage of her depression or while she still can handle her situation. If she would not be immediately treated she might at some point make an attempt to kill herself or commit suicide. Treatments for major depressive disorder There are several treatments for a patient who has a major depressive disorder. There is psychotherapy or counseling for people who have depression disorder and there are various medications or drugs used in treating people who are afflicted with this disorder. Numbers of medicines are used in the cure of major depressive disorder, these actually falls into the category of anti-depressants and are further categorized into a more particular drug or medicine. Among the anti-depressants are Tricyclic anti-depressants or TCA’s which can actually relief depression by increasing the neurotransmitters’ concentration in the central nervous system. Another one is the Monoamine oxidase inhibitors or MAOI’s acts as an agent in helping break down a particular neurotransmitter which would help regulate the mood of a person to become stable or normal. The third kind of anti-depressant is the Lithium carbonate which helps in reducing the activities of the nerves in the brain; it alters the chemical balance within a particular nerve in the brain. And the last kind is the serotonin which helps in transmitting messages without interrupting the brain chemistry. Treatment for Katherine In the case of Katherine she can be treated by using both psychotherapy and medication. I would use the interpersonal and or behavioral therapy on her for me to know what triggered her depression. I need to have a background of her present relationships; her relationship with her family, her relationship with her current boyfriend, her relationship with her friends, her relationship with her officemates and her other relationships. And after having analyzed her relationship patterns I would focus on her current behaviors. I would be able to know what triggered her present behaviors also by her past behaviors or the things that had actually happened to her that might have contributed to her behavior now. Aside from these two psychotherapy some activities might help in diverting Katherine’s emotions by encouraging her to try to involve her self in activities that would be pleasurable to her, like talking to a friend to release some of her emotions or going out with someone who is sensible and nice so that she can enjoy and forget about her depression. In her medication I would just give her an anti-depressant that would suit her because it might cause further complications if I would give her inappropriate medicine. Psychotherapy and the use of medicine would result to a more improved and satisfying results rather than using therapy or counseling alone and or just by giving medications. It is really hard to know if someone is suffering from a major depression because one might not notice the symptoms right away. The most important thing is to give ones self a chance to know his or her self more. References Association, A. P. (2000). Investment Analysis & Portfolio Management †Samples for Students

Question: Discuss about the Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management. Answer: Introduction The assignment considers and takes into account the utilization of the satisfactory financial derivatives. The derivatives are utilized by the managers of the portfolio for enhancing the returns and gains from the investments. The derivatives help in the increase of the amount of exposure faced by the investors and helps them in hedging the entire exposure of the capital market. They are the options that help the managers of the portfolio and the investments in applying the theories of investment that are relevant for the application. The derivative options help the investors in making exponential gains. The assignment also considers the evaluation of the derivatives under imaginary and theoretical situations. There are four categories of instruments of derivatives and the assignment has considered the analysis and the evaluation of the four instruments of derivatives. The analysis also consists of the recommendations given on to the managers of the portfolios. The analysis also help s in the attaining the capability of an investor to enhance the earnings by the usage of a variety of instruments of derivatives. Types of financial derivatives in the portfolio management As stated above, there are four categories of the instruments of derivatives that can be used for the management of the portfolio. The categories are as under: Future contract derivative The contracts that are conducted through the use of exchange and provide allowance to the investors for making sufficient decisions of investments are referred to as the Future contracts. They have a variety of similarities with the forward contracts that are discussed in the next part. It is similar on the basis that the sale of specific commodities is carried on a date that is in future. The commodity prices are fixed as per the present date and the same helps in the reduction of the volatility in the prices that the investors forecast for the date in future (Berezhnoy et al. 2014). They are contracts that use the exchanges. They are conducted with the help of a medium that puts an obligation on the various parties for the fulfilment of the bargaining part. They have a functioning and conducting on a format that is pre designed in nature. It is required to be proceeded by the investors in the process of the conduction of the transactions and the investments. In addition, such contracts for the most part follow the settlement of the contract on a daily basis. It considers the realisation of all the amounts of profits and losses on the period subsequent to the day of trading. In such contracts the buyers and sellers do not form any agreements and they basically carry out the transactions with the exchange (Bodie 2013). Illustration of a future contract Particulars Value Value Buying Gold 100 ounce Current Gold price 1250 = 125,000 (1250 * 100) Future contract 1285 = 128,500 (1285 * 100) Expected Price 1360 = 136,000 (1360 * 100) Reduction in losses 7500 Table 1: Forward contract (Source: Created by author) It can be understood from the above example of future contract that with the adaptation of the Future contract, there was a reduction in the losses of the transaction. There was a decline in the value of Gold i.e. the amount worth $8,500.The decline in losses was because of the lockage of the prices of gold that allowed the investors in reducing the losses towards attaining the commodity. Thus, this helps in effective investments of the money of investors (Brent 2013). Forward contract derivative They are the oldest and the simplest form of the instruments and have applicability till a limited time i.e. for that day only. They are taken into action by the investors for controlling or hedging the losses for the future period. It is an agreement for a later date made today and is made between the two parties that have regards with the sale of the instrument or the product. It had been in use until the invention of the derivative instrument named future contracts and as discussed in the above section. A number of investors have been using the contracts in an effective manner for conducting the tolerable exposure within the market (Frino et al. 2014). It was stated that the forward contracts have to be conducted and is generally conducted among the two counterparties or the parties. The contract does not consider the possibility of the exchange being accountable for the transaction done. While, on the other hand, there was an argument that by using the future contracts, there may not be any allowance or obligation on the part of the other parties that may commit towards the fulfilling of the contract terms. The particulars and the details related to the forward contracts are kept in a secret and confidential manner. It is hidden from the public and there is no condition of providing the pertinent information concerning the contract. The instrument of Forward contract is helpful in allowing an effective control towards the investors in terms of the rising prices. It also helps in the reduction of the losses that possibly can occur within the capital market as it has a volatile condition (Khumawala et al. 2016). The contracts are used by the bank to manage the exchange in currency. Illustration of a forward contract: Particulars Value Value AUD payment 1,000,000 Current AUD/USD Rate 0.76 760,000 (1,000,000 * 0.76) Expected AUD/USD Rate 0.73 730,000 (1,000,000 * 0.73) Forward Contract Rate 0.74 740,000 (1,000,000 * 0.74) Reduction in losses 10,000 (740,000-730,000) Table 2: Forward contract (Source: Created by author) The firm that uses the rate of AUD $ must be converted to $ as the conversion will lead to the reduction of the volatile nature of the payment to be made under the contract. The entire usage of such contract aids in the reduction of the amount of loss by about $10,000 as calculated in the table above. The same became possible by the application of the forward contract that reduced the fluctuation of the rate of exchange and thus reduced the risk faced by person at the time of exchange (Johnson 2015). Option contract derivative The Option contract of the instruments of derivative is used by the investors for the effective Hedging or getting secured from the exposure faced by the investors within the capital market. The contract provides allowance towards the investors for the effectiveness in the hedging process for getting secured against the categories ofthe volatility in future that are expected by the investors (Hou 2017). The two categories of options comprise of the call and the put options. The call option provides a right to the investors to buy a product or commodity at a specific price and at the later date. On the other hand, the put option provides a right to the investors to sell a product or commodity at a specific price and at the later date. In addition, such contract helps in providing the choice of an effective nature towards the traders. It provides a choice that will assist in the effective speculation of the market and by reduction of the expected and expanded losses that will form part of the investment period (Pinzur 2016). The contract requires adequate measures to be undertaken at the time of conduction of the trades related to the options. Thus, the exchange measures can be applied for the same. With the provision of the smaller amounts of premium, the trades of option majorly allow the investors in increasing the exposures related to the market. The premium costs can be ignored and it allows in the reduction of the risks with the increase in the capacity of investments. The future gains from the investment are gained by these contracts as it has a basis on the volatility of the future prices. The option contractors incur the major expenditure that is the amount of premium charged on the conduct of the trades and the use of premiums are done to allow towards the reduction of the overall blockage of the capital (Salazar 2014). Illustration of an option contract: Particulars Value Value Selling shares of Samsung 1000 Buying Put Option Current price 152 152,000 (1,000 * 152) Strike price 150 150,000 (1,000 * 150) Premium 5 5,000 (1,000 * 5) Expected Price 140 140,000 (1,000 * 140) Actual Price 149 149,000 (1,000 * 149) Reduction in losses 4000 (149000-140000) Table 3: Forward contract (Source: Created by author) The above example depict that the option prices of the Samsung had not followed the speculation of $140 and the same resulted in the loss of the investor as $4000. The strike price was $150 and premium $5. The prices of Samsung resulted in loss of $4000 by the investor and premium of $5,000 was paid. If the investor does not trade, he will be responsible to pay a premium amount higher than the incurred losses. Swaps derivative The Swaps derivative is one of the most complex and complicated category of derivatives. It involves the speculation and research done before the initiation of the trade. They are conducted on various numbers of participants that include the adoption of fixed and floating rates of interest. The adoption of fixed and floating rates of interest increases the entire gains from the trades and investments. The swap derivatives permit the investors to swap the rates of interests and the currency of underlying nature towards the enhancement of the financial income. The companies can easily avoid the obstructions faced by the means of the rates of foreign exchange towards the overall return from investment (Takino 2016). The swaps are conducted for the process of negotiation among two or more parties for obtaining relevant benefits. It helps in the reduction of a variety of risks occurring from investment. Amount to be invested 100,000 Interest rate 1st country Interest rate 2nd country Exchange rate 4 0.25 Savings 8% 3% Loan 9% 4% Invested amount $400,000 Interest received $32,000 Converted to 2nd country $8,000 Invested amount $100,000 Invested paid $3,000 Total income $5,000 It can be evaluated that there can be a gain of $32000 that has been converted to $8000. Investigation of the appeal of using derivatives in imaginary situations The above categories of the derivative instruments are practicable in nature but, the most effective one is the futures contract. Such contracts provide allowance to the investors for conducting trades devoid of any risks attached. The theoretical scenarios discussed above reflect the assistance provided by the trading done by the options and futures. These options help the investors to form effective decisions with regard to the investments and also effective conducting of the trades in the entire market. The forward contracts must be avoided in the construction of the portfolio by the investors and the managers of the Portfolio (Schwager and Etzkorn 2017). Additionally, the swap trades should be avoided by the managers of portfolio. The swap trades comprise of interest rates of swap that is complex job carried out by the companies. Consequently, there must be employment of the contracts like future and options that will assist a manager of portfolio to perform and convey the required rate of return obtained from the investment (Chance and Brooks 2015). Conclusions and Recommendations The overall assessment of the assignment shows that the contracts of derivatives provides allowance to the investors in suffice investment in the market place. The investors use the instruments of derivatives like future, options, forward and the contracts of swaps. On the other hand, the most effective one is the futures contract. Such contracts provide allowance to the investors for conducting trades devoid of any risks attached. It also provides effective profitability. Thus, the use of options will help in the adequate investment instrument for conducting the trades at high ends. The managers of the portfolio must effectively use the contracts for preparing the portfolio and gaining returns and productivity.
